Lowa Boots

After 6 or 7 years of heavy usage both as walking and riding boots (thanks again Nick ex Snap Happy), my Magnum gave up their ghost. I ordered one of these:

I have to say I am very impressed with the quality and and comfort. Not sure if anyone has any mid-long term experience with this make. Needless to say my Altberg are still alive and kicking, on the second pair of new soles but still looking as good as day 1......

Not sure I'd go so far as to call it mid to long term, but experience I do have. My Lowa Renegade GTX (low-mid walking shoe) were very very comfortable and with just a bit of daily walking to bus stops and such I'd worn them completely through the sole in just under 9 months. At which point the shop said that A they couldn't be resoled and B that was normal wear. So I told them to get fscked as one and a half pair of €180 shoes per year of middling to lazy bum use being normal wear does not pass the giggle test. But they were adamant, so I'm not buying Lowa again.

That said, these do look quite a bit more sturdy than the ones I had.

as for anything else there are mixed opinions on Altberg. My experience is really good from service in the shop, communication, to the final product. I would certainly recommend them

Altberg, comfy but a dire company. When I ordered mine, I should have took heed from the string of customers returning new boots. Maybe just a bad patch but shit sticks.
Never again!!!

Fortunately Goretex army winter boots can be had new off the shelf for less than half the price of non Goretex Altbergs.
Great boots, they just take an age to bed in.

Hmm. Hadn't clocked that they're not goretex.

More shopping around required then... My Hanwag hiking shoes are just a bit low for bike use.

Yep heard that from other folks too.......it's a shame really because they are obviously not consistent with their standards....... :(

not sure if this is of help to anyone....found a Boot Repair Company, based in Essex. Resole for less than 60 quid, and they have a collection, delivery service for a tenner or just under. Will report once the job is done.....

Boots are back, all done and new rubber fitted. So to recap £ 69.99 you get a bag and a label, you bag your boots, arrange collection, they get resoled with the original soles and then you get a phone call to let you know when the boots will be dropped back at yours. Additional 3 quid gets you a pair of new laces too.......I was happy with their service.
