New Helmet time.....

It dawned on me today that my Helmet is about 9 years old. It must be time for a replacement although I have never dropped it and it all seems fine (Shoei Multitec). Its a comfortable old friend and if I could get another I would. But its been replaced with the Neotec and at £549 its a tad pricey.

So, I am after recommendations for something similar. I like a flip front so that's a must. It must also have a pinlock or similar which puts the Shark Evoline out - which is a shame coz I really like to look of it otherwise. Shark Evoline Series 3 Hakka Helmet 2015 - buy cheap ▷ FC-Moto

I do like the look of and sound of the Lazer Monaco https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_cat/2054 its nice and light too and with a Photochromatic visor. (I use a photo chromatic pinlock which I think is great).

Last time I tried on a Schuberth I couldn't get it off my head quickly enough - pressure on my forehead which I think means my head is shaped one way rather than the other. I have had three Shoei helmets and they all fitted great so I guess my head is Shoei shaped. I think the Lazer is a similar shape.

The Caberg Duke and the Caberg Tourmax both look and sound OK on paper although less keen on the Dual Sport look of the Tourmax. I don't know what it is about Caberg but they always seem somehow cheap and bit nasty to me and I have read very mixed reviews about them including poor build quality and noisy. So I am a bit off them - unless someone tells me otherwise.

There's loads of other makes and brands out there so Interested in what experiences there are of other helmets.

edit..... just remembered it must easily accommodate a bluetooth headset (a Sena SMH5)

I ditched the Scala yonks ago andy - the set was C.R.A.P. I tried an Interphone F4 set but broke a cable on the headset while in Canada 2 years ago. I couldn't find a replacement cable but did spot the Sena set on sale in a bike shop in Alaska $200 IIRC - an absolute bargain. as they are £200+ here. Its the best Bluetooth headset I have tried (of 3) but I soon discovered they are not puddle proof after I let my helmet roll over into a puddle headset side down and stay there all night. After about 3 days of drying it started to work again but is now is difficult to switch on/off so I leave it on all the time and keep it permanently on charge when not in use - even when travelling using a USB battery.

Any more comments on helmets - someone on here must have or had a Caberg Duke or Tourmaster and have an opinion on it.

Shark's EvoOne helmets (the successor to the Evoline) DO take a Pinlock, so may be worth a look.

The new one's also a bit more streamlined than the old bulbous shape...I have an Evoline Haka, and it can be a bit of a tight squeeze in the top box, unlike my old Shark S900 (admittedly not a flip-front).

yeah saw the EvoOne it looks great and is probably fine but the review on Billys Helmets references its SHARP testing when the flip opened in 67% of the tests. That's not very reassuring.

I tried allsorts on a couple of years ago Austin.
I'd agree with your view of the Cabergs, dunno they just had a cheap feel creaky plasticy type to them - along with many other cheaper flips I hasten to add.

The Shark was a nice fit and great idea, I wasn't sure of the robustness/durability of the mechanism two of the desplay ones were broken!

The Shoei and Schuberth were nicest quality. Shoei simply don't fit me (which is a shame).
The Schuberth was a bit tight on my forehead so not perfect for me (but not far off)

J&S had some HJC RPJA max evo (what a bleedin' name) which were a nice fit and seemingly decent quality, they wouldn't budge on the already reduced price (260 I think). The search continued at the NEC later that year. After trying pretty much everything on, I ended up with a RPHA max evo from ........ J&S Northwich at the ticket price of £199!
Ironically, the RPHA's successor, the Imax or Smax or something was supposedly improved but feal creaky & plasticy and didn't fit well.
A couple of years on, I'm happy with it but quality/finish isn't up to my previous Arai's.

I do keep looking at the Evolines as I find myself riding openface with the flip up (not recommended!) More and more.

I wear a caberg duke and really like it. Very comfortable once on and great visibility.
The flip can be locked open if needs be. I brought another helmet but went back to the caberg.
Sena intercom fits perfect.
On the down side there is a little bit of wind noise but I wear ear plugs anyway so do notice really.
Good helmet at a sensible price.

I upgrade from the Shoei Multitec to the Neotec, much lighter helmet I liked my old one and really like the new one ( birthday present so I did not really stump up the cash ), they are expensive, but the lining is fully removable and there are designed to take wee speakers with dedicated voids

For what it's worth about head shapes, my noggin is the long oval type and most helmets, if they fit me at all, I have to push the foam in ever so slightly on my forehead or they give me headaches.

I had a Neotec a few years back which felt fine in the shop and while commuting but gave me splitting headaches after a few hours so was not an all day helmet for me.
Loved the big ventilation scoop on top, nevertheless it misted up like crazy on those typical winter mornings, even after having the visor/pinlock adjusted properly. Solved that by taking the chin flap out, which makes it colder and noisier but not as cold and noisy as having to ride with the visor open below 30 mph. Also, the liner tended to come undone far too easily. So mixed feelings on the Neotec, and then I wrote it off, along with my bike and 2 cars.

Then bought a Schubert E1 which so far has been an all day helmet for me after doing the pushing in thing. Comfy and quiet, decent enough ventilation (main reason I got the E1 instead of the C3Pro it's based on - The silly MX flappy thing is fairly useless but trivial to remove) and so far not giving me headaches. And then I wrote that off as well... This biking lark is expensive.

Best fitting helmet I've had so far was the Arai Tour-X3 but can't get them anymore and for some reason the X4 didn't fit me.

Been trying some on yesterday and today.

Schuberths still don't fit. Uncomfortable in seconds. Otherwise they ooze quality although don't do well in SHARP tests.

Caberg duke was ok on but only felt like it was touching my head at the top side and cheek pads. I thought the overall finish was average with the chin piece already somewhat sloppy straight off the shelf. I couldn't see it lasting 7+ years like my existing Multitech which actually still feels more solid and less rattle than the Duke. It's still a maybe though.

Shoei neotec....like an old friend who's had a face lift. But, apart from the newness it didn't feel like I was getting £500 worth of new helmet. And the colours are rubbish.

X-lite 1004. I liked this one in carbon. Wore it for 10minutes and it began to hurt. Drop down visor touched my nose too. On the shortlist.

Shark EvoOne. This is much more of an open face with a chin piece than vice versa which all the others are. The chin piece is really difficult to swing back into place, and I mean like it would be almost impossible when actually riding. And it was difficult to get it to latch properly when I did manage to swing it over. Spoils what is otherwise a nice helmet.

Lazer Monaco Evo. For a mid to premium brand Pricewise this had a somewhat cheap feel in the hand but it all worked rather well. The look was ok too even in the fluo colour way. Unsure about the fit as in only wore it for a couple of minutes but it wasn't uncomfortable at all. Another one that needed a couple of goes to latch it properly. I am going back to this one. = Top of the list with the Neotech I think.

The hunt continues. I might mosey on over to get geared in Leeds tomorrow.

Ruth's got a Lazer Monaco Pure Carbon

Nice lid but as you say doesn't latch easily

Replacement visors are also extortionate - nearly as much as we paid for the lid [emoji849]

I ended up with Shoei Neotec in Anthracite - Grey to the rest of us. On offer at M&P down from £499 to £299. Its great. :)

Oh, and every time I have ordered from M&P I have opted for the free delivery option, which implies its going to be slower than the next day or 3 working days options. However each time my items have arrived 2 days after ordering.

Just bought myself a BMW system 6 at an extremely good price. Haven't tried it yet but I'm very happy with it.

Got it from Riders in Cardiff. Paid £280 but that may have been a special price for a good customer who's not long spent a great deal of money.

Will see what I can do at Dick Lovett after spending a great deal of money earlier in the year! :)

dont forget new System 7 helmet came out a couple of months ago. Good opportunity to buy the outgoing model. I wouldn't be surprised to find the Neotec replaced soon.
