    A day of power tool

I've a couple of mains hammer drills, but my "go to" tools these days are 10.8v DeWalt drill and impact driver - they cover most of my DIY stuff, and I've an old (but still sound) 18v Makita combi drill which covers the "heavy duty" stuff. How did we manage before the advent of cordless tools, I...

Two Englishmen and a Welsh man

I like them too....... haven't found another jacket of similar quality at an affordable price (current Oxford Montreal is ok and comfortable, but the sleeves let in water even after reproofing, and an arm zip has failed). The two HGs I had were properly waterproof.... I did reproof them...

    Motobatt charger

Some of the Optimate-type "smart" chargers can't deal with a completely flat battery.... one where the voltage is below (say) 4 volts. It's sometimes possible to revive such a battery by using and old-fashioned "dumb" charger for an hour or two to push up the voltage, before swapping to a...

Garmin Zumo 390 LM charging issue

I've a 390....... a while ago it didn't seem to be charging in the bike mount, and I found that one of the tiny gold pins in the mount wasn't sliding in and out as it should. A quick poking, and a drop of ACF50, and it's been fine ever since.

    The "I can't believe it's not a Byway" tour Sat 30 Mar

I discovered that first one by accident ... it was where I found out that Battlax A41's don't work in mud! In theory, it's a tarmacced road :( At least I stayed upright, more or less.
