Gentlemen Do Lunch

Yeah I do but on the camera, which means loading them onto the computer which inevitably triggers a software upgrade that changes all my settings so I can't find anything. Then I need to upload to Photobucket and I am just about out of bandwidth there so I will need to delete some old stuff and then I find my broadband on go slow or another software update slowing everything down. So, photos eventually.

here are a few pics from the last GDL. I didn't take many as my camera phone battery went flat.

Edit this was done by dragging and dropping photos.

Steve Harper proposed a GDL over on xrv, so it only seemed fair to post it here. Next Tues (26 June, in Wales).

Gentlemen, SteveR, Paul W, Spud and myself are meeting for lunch next Tuesday in Wales. Apparently there’s a decent cafe where the B4391 and B4407 meet (sorry dont know its name) at 12:30, then probably on to Barmouth for an ice cream.
All welcome.

Is this the basis for more travels Austin?

I can see that working.
Top down zipping along the Croatian coastline, heater, air con and roof to avoid most of the discomfort (challenge) of a bike in extremes, and limited enough luggage to avoid taking the kitchen sink...
Less maintenance & lower running costs (depreciation aside) I suspect too.

Enjoy

Edit, but you'll still look with envy when you see a bike on a lovely winding road!

THIS CAFE DOESNT OPEN ON A TUESDAY!

The new venue is:- DOOF CAFE, RUTHIN, TUESDAY 12:30. Then onto Barmouth for ice-cream.

A lovely run out and great to see everyone - 6 in total.
Eats at Doof cafe which is a worthwhile visit then on to Barmouth but oddly enough, no ice cream! A trundle over the railway bridge on the way back before heading our own ways.
A welcome 300 mile, 12hr run out for me & a bit of bonding with the Transalp.

Ues, and no - no issues or comments, just a few friendly smiles from both us and the walkers, there was quite a few of them heading towards us so had a bit of a wait.

Thanks, Phil, good to know. I was up that way about 10 days ago but went the long way round, and it was damp [emoji853]. Next time.....

Long story short....a non biker mate has an MG TF (one of the newer versions - a 2003 I think) and he was off round Italy in it. The boot is tiny and he has to pack like a biker or a backpacker. I thought it all sounded a rather good change from a bike trip, so did Anne, so that was that. We went to look at a couple of older MX5's thinking we would spend a couple of thou on an old 'un but after a test drive we decided we would never go anywhere in the "old" car again so why keep it, and why have an old rusty MX5. A long afternoon at the Mazda dealers and the deal was done - the old Seat Leon was going and for not much more extra than we had planned to spend in the first place and we had a brand spanking new MX5. Its our only car and is as impractical as a bike really. In fact we had a camping trip to Scotland and really struggled to get into it what we easily pack onto the bike with space to spare. A boot rack now allows the camping stuff to be carried with a bit of spare room now.

We got it mid May and it hasn't rained yet and apart from a few miles to try it out we haven't driven with the hood up yet. The cabin is tiny, although leg room is ok and the boot is also very small. Roof down, hot day and air con filling the foot wells with cold air is lovely and then you step out the car in shorts and flip flops with no jacket or helmet to weigh you down and overheat you. I am rather liking it so far. But its true its no bike and what I miss most is the ability to easily cruise at 60ish overtaking more or less at will. Lancashire to Pembrokeshire last week took 8+ hours instead of around 5-6 when I go down the Welsh invasion. Twisty roads are fun in the car but nowhere near as good as on the bike. Horses for courses I suppose.

Its going to be a trip to Oz and New Zealand later this year to hook up with son #2 later so no Europe trip this year in the car or bike as we are saving our money for the flights to NZ.

Now why did I think your new set of wheels were white?

Not jealous at all . . . . . . . . .

Steve T

It was the Seat Leon we got rid of that was White. Its is not missed. It was a very boring car despite being one of their sporty FR versions.
