A Picture a Day

The roads that were closed by the recent moorland fires finally opened yesterday, so today I took a ride out to check out the damage . . . it's VAST . . . the pictures really do not show how far it has spread.

And as can be seen, the peat is still burning in places . . . quite a lot of places actually. There were still quads going about with water bowsers mounted and spray kit.

Ooh, nice one Steve. As Phil says, quite different for you, and huuuuge difference from that ickle 310.

Are you having a mid-life crisis or something?

Gents,

I have had a hankering for one of these for a good while, so when youngest son mentioned that he liked the F8GS after using it on the D2D training day, I casually mentioned he could have it if he was that interested.

Having missed out on a very low mileage, well speced XR in a local dealers just days after selling my NC750, I went "a hunting". This one came up on marketplace locally, so at the beginning of July I went and viewed it.
Turns out I had already ridden the bike - it's an ex-demo from Hairy Fartburns in Inverness which I rode some 3/4 years ago!
Explained my need to make space in the garage before purchasing it and youngest sons interst in the F8GS, which the seller understood.

1 month later and youngest son finally sees sense after test riding a CRF1000L and thinking it was for him . . . at twice the price Dad was asking for his F8GS.

So, end of July youngest son credits the bank of Dad with requisite number of readies and Dad pops out and gathers up the red machine the next day :thumbsupanim:

Gotta sort a luggage solution for it along with a center stand. It's sitting in the garage right now with no plastics on it, as I route a power cable to the battery. Just got to try and remember which screww goes where and what order the panels go back on

That's a lot of bike. Are these the rocketships that engine implies, or have they detuned it at least somewhat? :iconmrgreen:

The other end of the spectrum for me today, little sunday afternoon ice cream run.

Still such a giggle this thing, flat out at 38 mph. :iconmrgreen:
Also fun to see the various motorcyclist reactions, some of them frown with a look of what does that moped want from me can't he see I'm a *Motorcyclist*, some see the fun and silliness and grin and wave enthusiastically.

Eldest sons S1000XR is "only" 165bhp, which is slightly down on the original source of the engine - S1000RR.

My humble F900XR (the stunning red thing :thumbsupanim: ) has a little over 100bhp, but eldest still falls away from me when bends are involved ;)

Slight change of direction there Steve.
What's in the stable nowadays?
Sory Phil, forgot to answer your question.

Tis indeed a slight variation of direction of bike selection. :motorcycle:

Enjoyed a test ride on one not long after they were released and quite enjoyed the hour long ride I had on it. But not enough at that point in time to let the F800GS go. However, timing was right, what with youngest son taking a liking to the F8GS and the XR being local and going down in advertised price since it 1st appeared on marketplace at the beginning of the year :thumbsupanim:.

Sitting in the garage now I have the 'ickle BMW G310GS, the medium sized F650GS SE Twin and finally, the shinny red XR.

Enjoyable evening bimble. Needed to ensure that my DIY luggage securing system worked.
