There's a question for you.
Do certain motorcycle tyres puncture more easily than others? :motorcycle:

When I bought my GSA last year the nice salesman tried to offer me tyre insurance at circa £250 for 2 or 3 years. Pah I laughed in the face of the salesman. I commute every day and in the last 5 years most on the 1150 GS or the Super Tenere I had TKC 80's I probably had 1 or may be 2 punctures.
I've had 4 in the last year and got another one on the way home tonight and that £250 insurance policy is looking quite reasonable.

I've got the standard Michelin Anakee 3's on, although as per my other thread I'm ready for a change,

Mostly the rears I suppose?

Police bikes around these parts have a rubber flap underneath the bike, on the theory that nails lying flat in the road get kicked up by the front tyre and the rear then catches it mid-flight. Here's a pic:

Could be worth a shot. Old cat flap, couple of zipties to the centerstand, no-cost option. :D

Yes except for the last two were on the front which is really unusual.

I've a had few - two nasty ones that dumped me of the bike (many years apart). I had a spell of about three in very quick succession a few years back then several years and several sets of tyres with no problems. I honestly don't think there's any rhyme or reason for it. It's just bad luck.

I've been lucky. Never had a puncture on the dommie in the 40k miles I've had it.
Only ever had 2 on the GS, as long as I don't count the trouble I had with the K60 Scout leaking past the bead.

Though one of them was in the UK. Harwich is suddenly pretty far off if you're standing just outside Chipping Norton with a flat and a ferry to catch that day.
I started carrying a pump + patch kit after that... :)

In my experience motorcycle rear tyres get punctured more frequently than either motorcycle front tyres or car tyres. Dunno why! I suspect a contributory factor is filtering, especially when using areas of the road that where cars/vans seldom venture. I monitor the road surface for sharp objects particularly if I filter in the area just before and after a road island/keep left sign, and also if I edge onto a 'ghost island' (that is edged with a broken line of course - Highway Code Rule 130).

Hmm punctures:(
A few years back I had a load of them all within a year or two.
Last one I think was in France on my way to Jacques place. Been lucky recently. I am sure the Heidis are better than most as they are just so tuff
