Does anyone know if this or a variation is legal in the UK?

Wouldn't know if its legal or not but on the off chance a traffic policeman saw it you would be an invitation to get pulled over and inspected and if it was in any way loose I think as a minimum you would be told to take it off there and then. The other thing would be insurance. I am not sure which bit of policy would cover it/not cover it but if you were involved in an accident with a bicycle strapped on they would be looking to find reasons why the bicycle caused the accident and then why it was inappropriate to have a bicycle strapped to a motorbike.

I would have thought there's a less conspicuous way to carry a bicycle, like a wheel onto each pannier frame and the frame flat across the rack and pillion seat.

Good luck with it.

Is that photo real? Looks total madness
I assume it doesn't weigh very much but having that hanging off the back must create some type of imbalance when cornering. Sometimes, when you think you've seen everything, along comes another.......

I'd be mostly worried about what happens in the event of a crash, what with all those pointy bits at my back.

Weight wise it shouldn't be a big deal. Fancy bike like that doesn't weigh more than an ally topcase full of beer, nevermind a pillion.

There are some regs regarding marking loads that protrude over a certain distance from the carrying vehicle. Sometimes they need a trailer board to. You see those inverted red and white striped triangles on protruding loads. The alternative is dirty hi viz jacket tied to it!

Could always try the safety angle, its an anti wheelie flip over bar, m'lud.

I'm not so keen on how high and long that one sits either, there are a few other better ones around like below. My bike weighs 14kg, most of which will be low down in the tyres.
