Maybe a nice email to ask them what the score is?

Oh, and to point out all their spelling mistakes and grammatical errors too. :D

:D :D I'll sign it P. Edant for good measure.

They will just think you are Whealie :)

Some cretinous Civil Servant on £70k a year has dreamed up this wonderful scheme - what happens if you are Johnny Foreigner just come off the ferry at Dover, you'd know nothing about an electronic ticket scheme until you receive a massive fine for non-payment when you get home and think 'Sod, je ne visite pas la terre d'Anglais de voleurs bâtards encore' and you'd go to Germany, or Tenerife or somewhere next year. Why can't they just leave it alone???
They use this system on the Portuguese motorways, which are toll roads. Used one for a couple of miles a few years ago, along with Sharri and J, and we're still waiting for our payment demands.

It's ok for all those living in and around London to be aware of the prepayment system but what about the rest of us that may use the Dartford crossing once or twice every couple of years...

Encouraging automated or pre payment is fine for those that use it reqularly but leaves a confusing void for the rest of us.

We'll have to go around the other way Phil ;)

Anyway as all of use North of Watford know, they're funny sods in London ;)

On the use of the M6T, does anyone use it other than company drivers with a card...?

I use the M6T since the M6 has had road works from Jct 13 all the way into B'rum for as long as I can remember and it looks as though anyone who joined the roadworks gang as an apprentice will still be there when it comes to drawing their pension. Why can't this country get its sh*t together and work 24/7 on roadworks like they do in France? I hate to admit it but they do do some things a lot better than we do sur le continong.

Funny you should say that, I went up to university in the north in 1998 and those road works were still there when I graduated 3 years later! I never saw anyone working on them though. When driving up to Preston the other week there was again a mass gathering of road cones in the area and cameras but no works....... :rolleyes2: :eekicon:

How much is the M6 toll these days?

It doesn't matter how much it is - you can 't reach high enough to pay.

well I have just looked at the Highways agency website and there is nothing about what the new charges will be. There are spelling mistakes/typing errors which is really reassuring, shows a good eye for detail.

:rolleyes2:

You should move up here.. We had all this sillyness a few years back and then the new Scottish Government saw the light and just abolished all the tolls. No toll bridges or toll roads anywhere in Scotland. The traffic on the bridges has never flowed better (excepting yesterday when a lorry shed 200 litres of diesel on the Forth Road Bridge).

Yes i have memories of paying £26.50 each way on the Skye bridge for an artic , and the bridge was covered in animal dung where the farmers drove their animals across on foot to be picked up on the other side by another lorry rather than pay the toll , and the old boy in SKAT (Skye and Kyle Against Tolls) caravan the other side

I emailed the Highways Agency asking whether bikes would continue to be able to use the Crossing for nothing after the implementation of the new regime and whether there was a system in place to recognise a bike as opposed to a car passing through the soon to be unmanned crossing (at the moment you have to use a manned booth to cross for nothing on a bike). I have received the following response this morning:

Thank you for contacting the Highways Agency regarding the new remote payment arrangements that are being introduced at the Dartford Crossing from in October 2014. We at Connect Plus Services work on behalf of the Highways Agency to manage, operate and maintain the M25 and its linking roads as well as the Dartford-Thurrock River Crossing.

There is currently no intention to change the vehicle classifications for the Road User Charge at the Dartford Crossing. Motorcyclists will still receive free passage when the new remote payment arrangements come into effect. Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) and beacon equipment will be used to identify the Vehicle Registration Marks (VRMs) of vehicles using the Crossing

We trust the above is helpful. You can subscribe to receive updates on the introduction of the new payment arrangements, which will be known as Dart Charge, at www.gov.uk/highways/dartford.
If we can help you with anything else, please let us know.
