What pressure is required to suitably seat a tyre onto a rim?

Not too much. Less if you use lube. I know that not that helpful but I never feel I taken things to scary numbers and more usually the bead seats and then I have to inflate further to get to operating pressure.

I've no idea about pressure....just that it's a matter of getting a big volume of air in as quickly as possible. Which might explain some of the weird and wonderful (and very iffy!) tricks involving inflammable gases and giant 4x4 tyres that are (or were) shown on YouTube etc.

Just done a search and Dunlop tyres recommend that you don't go past 40 psi.

It's difficult doing the rapid inflation thing with only a foot pump.

Yes I use a compressor and for most tyres I leave the valve core out to get the air in even faster (not that I have to but it's already out so I don't fit till later) . Take it down to your local petrol station and try there.

If you are loosing air round the bead you either need to get the air in faster or try and seal the bead. I've never really had a problem as I have a big air supply but I've heard of folk putting ratchet straps (or rope as a tourniquet) round the circumference of the tyre and tightening to help push the tyre towards the edges of the wheel.

Foot pump + tubeless tyres = forget it...

Tried it once. What a disaster that was.

Fortunately this is a tubed tyre.

I had it sorted earlier, I was just asking for the sake of it.

You should get yourself one of them small 12volt compressor thingies, I paid about a fiver for one a few years ago and with a power socket on the bike it takes no time at all, works with the car as well. Foot pump? :eekicon: :)

Unless its a really hard bugger, like the Mitas 09 I've just fitted or a K60.
I did a couple of bursts up to 70psi to seat that little beauty... Tough bugger to say the least...

Used the works compressor for that.

plenty of lube is the secret , and a clout with a rubber mallet near the part that has not come out helps
