Well, the blanking grommet idea worked and it didn't fall off whilst I was out the other day bimbling about but, and there's always a "but", could it be better?

Had another look round and found, from the same supplier, a plastic 38mm blanking plug usually used for stopping up pipe ends, the bottom of metal table legs and the like. They look like this -

Offer it up to the hole in the footrest hanger -

Hmmm, the 38mm was Outside Diameter then. Should have checked first

Need to think about this. :coffee:

Ha ha! Dig out my Aldi/Workzone 'O' ring kit to find something suitable -

And, lo and behold, it fits rather well -

The 'O' ring sits in the groove that exists inside the hole in the footrest hanger -

Rather a nice fit. Yes, there is a bit of a gap but the cap is secure, due to the 'O' ring. The cap sits about 5mm proud from the footrest hanger, whereas the original Honda cap sits about 6.5mm proud.

However, don't push it in any further as it then sits in recessed and is a real pain to get out again. You'll need to be patient and be deft with a thin blade to be able to tease it back out again. Guess how I know?

For the record, the 'O' ring is 30mm ID and 3.55mm thickness, which is size R-22 in the Aldi/Workzone Metric 'O' ring kit. The plastic caps are also from Auto Clips Direct (as were the Mark One blanking grommets) at £2.49 for 6 caps delivered.

I've also ordered some 40mm OD plastic caps just to see how they would fit.
