Twas raining down south, so I rode north

Seeing as the forecast for further south, where I was supposed to be heading to attend a rally, was absolutely dire for a weekend under canvas, I bottled it and stayed north . . . . . . where there was a little less rain forecast.
As I had the day off and a bike fully fuelled, I thought a ride was in order . . . . . so ride I did.

Wet, rain soaked back roads to Inversnekky, followed by more wet roads, all of the back kind, to Alness and a favourite haunt of mine, the truck service stop at Skiach.

After a short break I was slightly less wet on the outside and slightly warmer on the inside after a nice cuppa tea, I headed north for Lairg, then Altnaharra and Tongue. Slipped off the black and onto the grey of a forestry track whilst heading north – well, the gate was open and it would have been rude not to try the dirt . . . .

Took a few photo’s whilst near the north coast, seeing as the weather got better the further north I travelled. These from the old road that preceded the causeway up at Tongue.

The roads stayed dry and the sun still stayed shinny, so Steve’s smile was well wide by the time he got back to Lairg. Stopped for a glug of liquid and a light snack and whilst munching I walked some feeling back into my nether regions after many, many miles. As I wandered, munching as I went, what should I spy spying on me but this little slitherer . . . . .

Never encountered one of these in the wild before, so spent some time just watching it soak up the sunshine, before it got fed up of me watching it, and slithered off into the undergrowth.

Returned home via the Strui (the way I’d come north) and the weather was waiting for me, in bucket loads! So a wet road ride home was had (the reverse of the outward journey), and some 350 miles later I dismounted at a sunny home sted, feeling well and truly knackered but very, very happy.

Apologies for not attending the rally at KS, but when I’m soaked through I need my bed, not my lillo!

Wow. Amazing pics of the slithered. I would have been too busy running away as fast as I can rather than stopping to take pics.....

Awwww , cute little adder :D

Nice pics as usual Steve.
Weather on the west was mixed. Really heavy rain on the Wed, but sunny rest of the week. Went to watch the six days yesterday as it was only a couple of miles from my work, excellent day out. Amazing skills

I understand, Simon, that you are working a "attend as required" presence at KS! Hows the weather that far south?

Cracking shots but I hope you used a telephoto lens on the slithery thing as they can strike up to twice their body length (6ft) and although wouldn't kill you, a bite on a finger could mean loosing it and it would sting - a lot, a great huge enormous lot!
