Well....
Seat and pannier off, side panel off, chain guard too..The rear header pipe came off and out smooth as silk; Wahaaay thought I, this is gonna be a piece of p155...
2 hours later, both exhausts, front header and pannier mounts are scattered around me.
Two problems;
1. The new seal wouldn't go in the pipe. Tried bending the 3 sides of the pipe out with various items and finally got a huge screwdriver inherited from my father, in between them, and prised them open by hitting said screwdriver from above with a mallet and socket extension bar
I'd also tried cutting one of the seals with a hacksaw to make a slot so's it would fit better. It did fit, but the edges were so weakened, they just crumbled when I tried pushing the header in..So out it came again, and new one fitted!
2. The bluddy header pipe won't go back in place with the new gasket in place! Tried all angles, positions, brute force and gentle persuasion, but no chance. Just succeeded in knackering the gasket more...
Sooo, tried loosening front down pipe, and the clamps for the exhausts. Still no luck, so the only option was to drop everything off, and do it properly
Anyway, it all went together reasonably well, and when it goes again, it'll have a nice brass jobby in it, and I'll strip the barstard down right from the start; Takes a bit longer, but much less stress to get everything fitting.
As it was chucking it down outside and I had time to fiddle around, it was actually quite fun and certainly a good way to learn how it all fits together
However, I do need to get a Haynes manual before I do any more tinkering...
Oh, and Honda prices are incredible!! 3 gaskets and 2 hose clamps(without bolts!) 104.78€
Just got to repair, or more likely replace, the front exhaust pipe of my Corolla which decided to shear off at the flange joint whilst running around getting all the bits and pieces for the bike...
