I have a guy wants to buy my bike but he wants to pay by bankers draft. Never having had anything to do with this method I am at a loss as to the rights and wrongs so any info would be great.

I would treat as a cheque I.e. only accept if you can phone the bank to check if he has the funds in the bank. Better still the two of you go into the bank together, I would be wary excepting outwith banking hours.

Even phoning the bank is no safe bet these days. Although the funds my have been present at the time the bankers draft was issued if the subsequently turned out not to have been available the bank will renege on it's own cheque.. Cash or electronic transfer (while you check online banking to ensure the funds arrive) is the best way.

Andy,

As above, I would wait until the candy is in your account. You should be able to get a preferred payment through next day.

Good luck

Good advice guys but it looks like it's academic anyway as I have heard no more from him. I will email him tomorrow and ask what the feck is going on but it looks like a re-list due to non paying feckwit. :(

Andy.

Send him a PM with 'we know where you live' - probably hasn't the brains to figure out there's no way you'd know where he lives, but he might get some sleepless nights. :thumbsupanim:

Was it an e bay sale?
You can trace the prospective purchasers details by going to advances search, and select contact details. You will each get an e mail with both sets of contact details (name, phone no and post code).
If they are legit the details will match.

Oops! After me calling the man all sorts I have just had a phone call from him. He wanted a wee chat about the bike as he has a man coming over to the mainland next week, he said he would send a bankers draft, or a cheque but I told him an electronic bank transfer (which he knew nothing about) was preferable so he is going to the bank tomorrow to check it out. Looks like a result after all. :D

I came home last night and checked the bank account and a wedge of cash has been deposited via electronic transfer so the red BMW will be leaving soon. :thumbsupanim:

Andy.

It always amazes me when a bank transfer actually appears in my bank account - I sold a wooden canoe for £1200 last week and the bloke bought it sight unseen and transferred the money via Paypal. Lo and behold an hour after he telephoned me, up popped an email to tell me I'd got the lolly and by a couple of clicks I transferred it to my bank account in case the geezer changed his mind. Luckily, when I delivered the canoe the following morning he was over the moon with his purchase. But I have heard some horror stories when it all goes pear shaped with this electronic bankery nonsense - so I do share Andy's concerns but also the great joy when a plan all comes together.

PS The money was immediately 'reclaimed' by she-who-must-be-obeyed as I've been on a bit of a spender on bike kit etc lately. Heyho . . .

Great news Andy.
It can be a bit worrying selling a bigger value item but nice when it all falls into place :)
