CCM Adventure

I went to the Telford off road show today and on one of the stands was the final version of the new CCM. I had a nice chat with the factory dude and have an invite to roadtest one in the coming weeks with a mix of on/off road riding. Got to go to Bolton or mid Wales, either way a nice day out ;)

I dont really see me buying one as the engine is not man enough, but boy is it pretty in the flesh. :D

Anyone been on one yet?

not yet,

but the wife is very interested in them as they are small and light

VERY light, 130kg or so! 6 ft'ers+ may need the taller seat I thought

Pity they have not found a bigger motor with a 6 speed box though and put in a proper low first and a cruising 6th. It would make it more adv as opposed to ride to the trail. I may be wrong though ;)

Are you booking a ride?

I have seen the comments, reports and pics too, but in the flesh it really looks the part. Specced up it will not be cheap, but what price exclusivity....

CCM say they will take the bikes back to the factory for servicing and repairs until a dealer network is in place.

The bike looks interesting but I'd be wary of taking one too far away from the civilised world until reliability and parts supply is fully bottomed out.

Out of interest anyone know where the engine comes from. Is a simply a rehomed unit from another manufacturer?

It's the BMW G450 engine detuned and with a bigger oil capacity

I saw it in the flesh at the NEC, and talked to the CCM crew there.
The bike looked really nice, and the guys (and girls) were really great to talk to.

I hope they will sell bucket loads of them so that there will a supply of secondhand bikes when the time comes for me to exchange my present ride.

Been following the news for the CCM Adventure since it was first announced.

Took one for a spin at the NEC - 20 minutes, road only.

Must say it was a hoot to ride, really light, easy to control, "enough" power (as Rolls-Royce used to say :D ), and with a comfortable saddle and riding position.

Pricey? Maybe. Try looking at a near equivalent, say a Yam XTZ660 , then upgrade the suspension to a similar spec and look at the price again.

Would I buy one? Yes, I'm pretty sure I would if I had that kind of cash to spend and maybe a second bike for 2 up euro trips.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I can reach the floor from a CCM, but not from the XTZ!

Even Ruth can reach the floor.....

They must have had Hobbits in mind when they designed them

I test rode the pre production model in September on some trails and road, the fuelling wasn't perfect but I think the early issues have been dealt with now, I am hoping to get to Bolton in April when I am home for a couple of weeks to ride the production model with the taller seat, Have to say I loved it but going through the optional extras list my dream model came out at just under 10k :eekicon: I did tick pretty much everything though including road book and Extra lights ( thought i might need those for the Hard Alpi ). A test ride in April will make things clearer…hopefully. Having done a couple of longer trips on my 55W i would have no hesitation in doing similar on the CCM, at least power wise just keep off the motorways.
I think the first bikes should be out soon and get some feedback, originally they should have been out before Christmas.

Totally agree with what you say about needing to up-spec the bike and it will cost big time then! The real problem comes with the fact that there are no indie aftermarket supplier's as yet, if ever...

My personal concern with the bike as an adventure tool is whether it has enough legs for long distance work? In theory it would not have very much less power than an early honda transalp and is 50kg lighter! That seemed to have enough power for long distance motorway work. As you say possibly best on A and B road:grin:

I have heard from Alice@CCM now, so hopefully I'll get chance to see for myself :D

Of course, you cannot ride it on the Hardialp trip, it's below the 150kg limit ;)

I've spent the weekend in the lakes,on the trails watching a guy on one of these show me up on my crf 450, it went places, no one who rode it had a bad word to say about it

Don't forget the 130kg is dry weight, you can add on a few kg for oil, coolant and fuel.

I'll come and help you pack then, as I have never knowingly travelled light ;)

Heard back from CCM, test ride can be sorted pretty well anytime to suit me with some notice, however delivery time is now late July! I have been promised a full on road test to properly assess this side of the bike. :)

My daughter and I both sat on versions at the Excel show. They now have a higher seat version than at the NEC in November, plus the lowered version that my daughter could ride.

If money were no object the idea of getting two identically specced bikes just one lowered and one raised would be tempting. The reality is my daughter does not look like ever getting tall enough to ride an Africa Twin, and I'd have to restrict hers in Europe (the CCM can come restricted but is "very easy to de-restrict").

The problem is: "If money were no object".
