Coolboard

So in a similar vein to the Top Gear coolboard and at the risk of alienating my fellow forummers (I know I've done that already!) How do you rate your bikes on the coolboard?
Your bike could be fantastic but not cool or vica versa so I would say that my Africa Twin RD07 is cool. An RD04 subzero. My 650 Tranny is a good bike but pretty uncool. My XR600 is medium cool but getting cooler as it gets older (unlike its owner). Interesting ones would be the likes of an Aprilia Caponord.....I say pretty cool. 1150 GS pretty cool.....1200 GS uncool? I would say a Vanvan is cool but a XR125 is uncool?

Yeah, I know what you mean. The F650GS is a lovely bike to ride, but the Vanvan (for me) was the cool one. I've never had anyone remark on the BMW but Nessie often met with appreciative remarks from total strangers when I was out and about on her.

Is there a cool jap custom out there? Viragos may have been better bikes than Harleys but not cool.....actually the Honda VT750 in white is ok...or is it?

Coolness in my book is proportional to the amount of effort required in turning something ordinary into a gem. As an automotive example I would propose the Austin Metro 6R4. The effort to turn a small hatchback shopping trolley into a legendary rallycross beast being monumental/foolhardy.

A two wheel example would be this CX500 cafe racer.

Well, at least it makes a statement...

Not quite sure what said statement is supposed to be, mind, but still.

But that PC800 is just drab.

Then again... It has shaft drive and luggage, and it's less boring than a Deauville. I wonder if you could fit one with knobblies. :D

Honda VFR800 Fi fairly cool, looks nice enough, accellerated like crazy, but poor handling. BMW R1150RS, deffo uncool, handled brilliantly, so unreliable. Honda Varadero XL1000, early Carboderos off-the-scale uncool, Injectaderos still uncool, but capable, comfortable, reliable, go anywhere. Injectaderos with engine bars, Barkbusters, luggage, after-market exhaust, GPS, doo-dads, gravel scratches, *cool*... 'coz it says "I don't give a ****" and 'coz it's mine!!!

Cool;
Anything old, well used and unrestored.
Dispatch Riders bikes
Well travelled bikes
Bikes with 'sensible' owner mods/bodges

Uncool;
Most stuff that had heaps of money spent on tat fitted.
Something covered in anodised tat
Over restored bikes
Bikes that look like a zebra [emoji3]

Transalps are fashionably uncool which, by default makes them cool [emoji6]

Ah, but it's only got a knobblie on the back.

Is that the 750 triple or 1000 four by the way?

K75.

Phil is talking sense. Only the transalp needs to be a 600, the others are more into meh territory. ;)

Oh and the zebra? The bike isn't really the problem. The owner with matching chairs and fleece jacket however...

So it's a sunny Sunday and your at the local biker cafe. There's hundreds of bikes. Here's what I think....

Uncool - almost any current bike.

Uncool - anything with artwork for a paint job.

Uncool - all custom (in the normal sense), cruisers and choppers.

Uncool - concours vintage bikes or in fact any concours bike of any age.

Cool - the truly well worn, well used but completely sorted for purpose overland travel bike. Whatever it is, it's a cool bike.

Cool - anything 2 stroke and 250cc or bigger except a GT500.

Sub zero - anything 2 stroke and 500cc or more (except a GT500)

Cool - well used sporting Italian bikes from the 70s and 80s in standard trim. 900SS, Le Mans, Jota, etc.

Uncool - Italian touring bikes from any era.

Cool - unashamedly big touring bikes without any added bling whatsoever except the Pan European.

Cool - first editions of current super sports bikes - fireblade 900, R1, GSXR750/1000, etc

Coolest bikes at the meet would be an original Katana 1000 and an original Z1 900.
