Exhaust paint

My exhaust manifold is pretty disgusting and unattractive. Anyone used high-temp paint to improve the cosmetics of their bike?

If so, recommendations?

The recommended paint a few years back was duplicolor hitzefest / supertherm 800.

Put it on the headers of my dominator once. Looked good for about 100 miles, then it was back to that particular shade of brown. ;)

I would hope the quality has moved on but in the past I always found it gave great results immediately but like RC found that rust just pushed it off the pipe. Maybe you have to really clean and 100% de-rust the pipe first. Last used about 5-6 years ago on son #2 April RS125, cant remember what but it was crap so wouldn't recommend it anyway. Sorry, no help really.

The 800 degree stuff is pretty decent usually, but especially on exhaust headers it just burns straight off again. It just gets too hot. I've used it on the R100 collector box where it wasn't as bad but nowhere near the nice flat black paint job it should be.

I've used various types of vht over the years all with the same results. I believe it's porus to let the heat out, obviously theres a downside to that....

It's the GS Jase. Since I took the pic below I have painted the crash bars which makes the exhaust pipes look even grottier. Have bought some black Halfords paint, will report back with pics.

What I also need to get is some new screws for the brake discs too.

As for the Fazer, i'm thinking of an all matt black paint job. But that's a summer project i reckon :D

They'd clean up ok
Mine were pretty grotty, stuck a brass wire brush in the drill and attacked them and they came up pretty well

EXHAUST PAINT UPDATE

Don't bother. 200 miles later and it's all pretty much burned off. :eekicon:

Wire brush drill bit it is then :D

Make sure it's a proper brass bush and not a gold coloured steel one

I think the only coating that would last on the exhaust headers would be a ceramic coating. Bit of an expense mind and the faff of having to remove the headers to send them of for coating. Though there are a couple of places that do it. CamCoat being one that I've come across - not used them mind so cannot comment of longevity of the coating

Yeah I was just after a cheap, quick fix rather than significant investment. Cheers anyway

a year and 6000 miles later they don't look so shiny but are instead a nice gold colour (and in need of a clean)
