Headlight Bulbs

There are a bewildering array of headlight bulbs, all claiming to be better and brighter than the next.

Given that I need H7 12v 55w bulbs... does anyone have any tried and tested recommendations? Cheap and cheerful and £5 a pair? Or all singing all dancing light up the moon on a cloudy day £30 a pair?

I think claims of brightness or brilliance iro bulbs seems to be like snake oil claims to me. Apart from LED headlights and HID bulbs every other headlight that comes towards me always seems to be more or less the same. So IMHO claims of 100% or whatever brighter is bollox. I am sure if you stick a lightometer in front there's a measurable difference but in the real world I can't see it matters much.

I have got HIDs in mine at the mo and am a bit underwhelmed actually. But then the GS headlights are known to be crap.

Austins right, one of the lads at work put some super bright cost a fortune bulbs in his Focus.
He was setting it up on our beam setter when one of the other lads commented that the light meter reading was no higher than a standard bulb. The colour was different but that's it.
I think he said they were about £20 each too. Ouch!

Unlike those above, I have seen a difference after fitting a different "coloured" bulb. By differrent colour I mean a differrent type of white light i.e. a blueish tinge to the light.

I've used Oram Night Breakers and found them better on the un-lit roads I ride up here in the north of Scotland.

Just my mutterings on the question asked :D

Yep, I too noticed a difference between the typical cheap bulb and the Philips Xtreme Vision Moto. H4 in my case. It's not a big difference, not even remotely like HID or anything, but when the fancy bulb broke and I stuck in a regular one, I could indeed see the difference, it was noticeably weaker than what I had before.

Also, don't just buy bulbs like these in a regular shop, check ebay and such first. Last time I looked at my local dealer they were asking absolutely daft prices and ebay had 'em for about half that.

Heh. Riding from sunny day into dark evening is fun too, if you forget to take off your shades. Besides the opportunity for Blues Brothers reenactment... ;)

Sunglasses and tunnels don't mix either [emoji3]

Came round a corner in bright sunshine on the Forgotten World Highway straight into the Moki Tunnel and thought "Shiiiiiiit, just point it at the light" [emoji3]

Well, in my case, was returning from Ullapool after hooking up with Chad and his mate. They were running late, taking in the views, so to speak :D

Had to follow Steve's brake light all the way as I stupidly left my clear visor at home, didn't expect to be out for so long

When he asked if I had seen all the Stags at the side of the road on the way home, I had to admit, I didn't see a fekin thing, I was solely concentrating on following his red orb in the darkness, not many street lights on that road :D :D

Maybe as well, Stags freak me out at that time of night, they have a habit of jumping out in front of me on more than one occasion :p
