We had a long weekend on the Isle of Skye for Easter. 400 miles there, 400 back and 200 round the island. Brill.

Good Friday, mostly wet, mostly cold, M6, M74, Loch Lomond, Rannoch Moor & Glen Coe, Fort William, Glen Shiel, Kyle of Lochalsh, Skye in sunshine. A good day that got better and better. 11 Hours, 4 stops.

Dun Flodigarry Hostel: big, clean, International, great kitchen, sociable. Recommended.

Easter Saturday: misty then foggy, then bright then sunny :D

Easter Sunday: Sunny Sunny and Sunny. Lunch in a beer garden and more warm sunshine and best of all no midges :thumbsupanim:

Monday: Sunny, Rick bought us breakfast :eekicon: , more sun, A9, Dunkeld and Anne got hit by a car's wing mirror...poilce. M9, M80, M74, M6 Home after 12 hours and 430 miles.

You knocked it off with the weather. How was the bike 2 up with all the gear? The run down to the central would have been glorious on the Mon.

I see you found the production home of "Pishhh" whisky! ;) Well, thats Lowflyers description of any amber liquid that flows from the islands :D

Cracking photo's - especially like the misty mountain ones.

"Rick bought breakfast" - You have to remember that he isn't a jock, even though he's lived beyond the wall for many years, so the occasional act of generosity isn't that un-expected :D

Finally, can you please return the nice weather that you took south with you. Woke this morning to the sound of the bedroom window being battered by a right downpour!

P1sh whisky Steve ????, I 'll have you know I now am partial to a wee dram of that other TCP flavoured elixir, none other than Laphroaig, strangely enough, it has a very more ish flavour :D :D

Thanks for posting Austin. Catch up with you next time you are up

Thanks for the comments all. The 2nd to 4th Photos were down at Glenbrittle where there is a stunningly located campsite. Its a must for a future trip. Not much there and miles to the nearest pub and shop, but the location would make up for it. Something for later in the year or next perhaps.

I can't say I am huge fan of Island whiskies other than Jura Origin, but when in Rome and all that, and they do taste better in their home locale. I bought a sample pack of 3x20cl bottles at the distillery. One has gone, the other has a small dent in it, the third would have cost £64 for a full bottle so I will keep that to share with someone special on a special occasion. The Isle of Skye Brewery also does some nice Ales. The brewery was closed but the shop was open so we also tried several of their offerings, with their Gold beer being the best. Its brewed with Oats (in addition to the usual stuff) which gives its a lovely creamy finish and head. Only £2 per bottle at the brewery too.

The bike wasn't particularly loaded up as we were staying in a Hostel and Anne is now better than me at packing light. But it was good practice for going to Canada later in the year doing 2x400+ mile days up and down. We have been advised that in the remoter parts of Canada other than fuel stations there can be up to 1000km between places with any sort of useful facility and most places are at least 2-300Km apart. And, what is in-between is flat featureless farmland or just arctic scrub. Stopping overnight to wild camp is not recommended unless you know what you doing due to the risk of encounters with Bears, Moose, and other aggressive wildlife including swarms of black fly and mosquito :eekicon:

I'd be wary of Glenbrittle in the summer Austin, midge country ;) :D

Saying that, the little buggers haven't been that bad the last couple of years :eekicon:
