Well, it’s happened again (1st time was my last XRV750 – the Green one).

Chatting with a local garage mechanic some 3 weeks ago and he asks what I’d pay for a 1995, 1 owner 600 Transalp that’s got 29k miles on the clock . . . and it has full luggage?

He explained that it was part of a deceased chaps estate and it would be up for sale soon. We both agreed on its worth (much less than the departed chaps wife thought it was) and I then thought no more of it . . . until Monday last week.

I popped into the shop for a browse and a blether, as you do, when the man says to me “You interested in that Transalp? It’s in the van if you want to have a look!”

So I took a look and that, as they say, was that.

It’s now had some fettling and an MOT and is ready for some miles & smiles.

Very, very clean :respect13:

Running a tank full through it today to make sure all/any Gremlins are flushed / burnt out of the system. Did 20+ miles on it yesterday evening and all appears to be OK, but I'll burn off some more dino juice today, to make sure :ride: before commiting it to a 500+ mile jaunt to/from Oban (I'm taking the long way down :D)

Nice one. It's funny how prices for some old bikes take off like the proverbial rocket, and some others that are also sort-of iconic take off like that new NASA moon rocket, ie they don't. :D

A tidy original R80G/S can set you back 10 grand, a tidy original XRV 650 seems to do pretty well too, but a Transalp seems to be sort of forever a 2 grand bike.

You taking it to the National ??
Having now run a goodly number of dino juice liters through it the answer to that one is NO.
Dirt in the carbs is causing it to drop one cyclinder at low revs on part throttle openings for a short while, then it chimes in on both.

Fettling required on my return from Oban it is then :thumbsupanim:

Well that's the wee Enfield all packed up and ready to go although the weather forecast for doon here is not too good and I am not leaving home in the pissing rain. I hope it is fair(ish) in the morning then I should be able to make it before dark. :oldman:

That's a shame Steve, I was looking forward to seeing that one, same as my Alp No 2.5 & the first to open my eyes to touring by bike. Fond memories.
Heck, I might even be tempted myself when you come to move it on....

When will we ever learn? [emoji2]

Well, after a carb strip down and clean, along with new plugs, I can confirm that the Alp is now in fine running health and has returned just shy of 60mpg on it's 1st tankfull :respect13:
Gonna burn another tankfull this week in advance of taking it the short distance through to Nairn at the end of the month for another of LWRs gatherings . . . with a good long ride into the Highlands over that weekend for good measure :ride:

Happy V-Twin days are here again :ridebumps:
