New forum-Financial implications for Digi?

Just a question i hope you don't mind asking

I hope doing this is not costing you a arm and a leg?
Have we got a donation button/page?
Maybe in the for sale section we could encourage people to make a donation after a successful sale?
Remember how long it took on XRV to get that sort of thing sorted and eventually you will have to upgrade or once we are bigger and have our first National(Ullapool :thumbsupanim: :thumbsupanim: ) we could hire a Marquee or something along those lines.
Just thought it might be a idea to think about it now and make a plan?

I just thought if we bring it up now we could maybe a solution in place before you come around my house :eekicon:
I know its all free now but this place will grow and before you know it we need to rent a Marquee for the National in Ullapool ;) :thumbsupanim: :thumbsupanim:

how subtle was this ;)

I agree with Lord Vader, its very important that Russ doesn't start to dig deep into his pockets and I would suggest the following, some of which has already been put forward

- Anyone who wants to sell bikes/kit/parts should make a 'contribution' (suggest £3?) before being allowed to post, even if its a 'heads up' for an item on ebay/gumtree etc.
- A 20% mark up on product such as stickers, T's etc
- Organised runs should ask everyone for a 'cap' before setting off, e.g. like fox hunting (except without the stirrup cup!)

I belong to an open canoe forum which works along these lines, members all agree that this is a fair way to go on and Admin costs are covered and since starting out in 2005 it now has 100,000 members. We also have a Big Meet every year with Beer tent, a few retailers are invited to come along and they bring plenty of demo canoes, kit etc. We all chip in for a giant chilli con carne (£1 each) which cooks for hours and hours, and after plenty of beer actually tastes quite . . . .

Just a thought but you could all make a contribution to my company vehicle, now I haven't ordered it yet but I'm thinking maybe a Triumph Explorer XC?
obviously I'll be needing a fuel card supplied :thumbsupanim:
As they say, bollocks to that. ;)

Though getting something in place early does seem sensible.

And it could be me, but I almost get the impression somebody wants to go back to Scotland. :D

I agree with a donation - hosting is bound to cost something. But i'm not going all the way to Ullapool to give it !!!

I think you ought to consider finances sooner rather than later. You dont want to be playing catchup if bills start rising.
I would prefer a flat rate annual subscription. Relying on contributions from event attendees is fine but they shouldnt carry a disproportinate burden.

Ps, it seems a tax on german beer may be the most profitable way forward ?

You just been crossed of my xmas card list

Yep i must say a annual subscribtion to cover your basic costs plus maybe the odd pennys from the sales section and a percentage on the merchandise?

Russ,

Have you thought about bringing in a subscription that offers no more (or less) benefits than just registering free does?

That way if you want to subscribe and contribute then you can, if you don't want to (or can't afford too) then you don't but there's no difference.

This way the forum is still completely free but you can pay for it if you want too.

I wouldn't of course, because I'm a tight arse and your forum is crap... :D   :mockery22:

Which is why a donations button would probably work?, I'm not opposed to that idea

A donations button would be annonymous, if you pay to subscribe then you could have "Subscribed" under the forum name and then we'd know who is supporting the site. We can then badger the ones who don't. :D
