I appear to have bought another motorcycle.....

Seeing as Big Bird could do with a bit of TLC and I'll need to take it off the road for a while to do it I'll be needing alternative transport.

Cue a trip to look at a '05 F650GS last night, not the tidiest of bikes but mechanically sound and the right price for a run around.

Pics to follow when I pic it up, hopefully tomorrow.

Nah, I wont be changing any other bikes any time soon,

now Ruth is a different matter entirely,

I think she only let me buy this one so she has an excuse to change her bike

it's the 3rd F650 we've owned now.

just added it to my insurance and it cost 67p to cover it for the remainder of the policy, then a £35 admin charge

well here it is

Keeping with the theme of avian names this one will be known as Daffy

It's a bit rough round the edges but not as bad as I thought it would be.

Just sorting a few tweaks before I start to use it.

it's not bad Phil

the engine has shed it''s paint and been repainted in Hammerite so it looks better in the photo than it is (not that it's too bad though)

a few scrapes on the plastics, the screen was fitted wrongly (and had been for 6 years ), new chain hadn't been adjusted at all , tail light housing was cracked (out with the araldite )

so a few hours tinkering and it's all sorted and ready for the road. :ride-bumps:

It's unbelievable how some folks' supposedly look after bikes....
Sounds a solid base that you can easily improve

it was until I discovered the shock is fubar'd

I went to increase the rebound as it was a little bouncy and found the screw just spins

ah well, a new shock on order that last me a while

Yeah, that can happen. Can the original shock be rebuilt?

it can but I suspect something has sheered off inside as the screw just spins.

having got it off now it's rather rusty anyway so I'll just bin it

Nah,

It's in the bin already, after stripping the pre-load adjuster off it (it's the same as the one on the 1150 and that seized up the other day - I freed it off but worth having a spare)

I just hope the new shock arrives quickly now as the bike is in bits all over the garage

New shock arrived yesterday and fitted it last night,

after a spin out via Ibstock to drink Russ's coffee (and eat his cheap biscuits )I'm very pleased with the bike

it'll never replace the 1150 but that was never the intention so it'll do just fine as a runabout while I tidy up the 1150 and then as a winter bike
