The unfortunate thing is someone will buy these stolen bikes - probably via a public auction site which we all know and love/hate

Nothing worse than thieves! The scum need their hands cutting off. Hope these turn up soon, but you can bet no one will get done for it... It's a sad world we live in my friends....

Unfortunatly it's not uncommon fathers dealership used to be an Aprillia dealership a few years back. One night father was home and had the police and security on the phone asking for him to come down to see if anything was missing, the showroom window was ram raided.

They got away with 2 special edition 450MX Aprillia's. They thought they were stolen to order as several other dealers through the country had been phoning father wanting to buy them and they said no each time. So time passed by and they notified the garage insurance firm to put in the claim for loss and property damage all was gong well.

A few weeks later the police phoned and said "we've recovered your bike's and they are being held at Camborne police station" so father said " i'll be down shortly to identify them" to which he was told he was not allowed to see them as they were being used as a further investigation for something else. So there was no proof they were the bikes which were stolen.

A week or so later the poilice went down to the garage and and tried to arrest father and the garage owner for making "fraudulent insurance claims". The view the police took was that the bike were recovered, but father's and the garage view was that they wre never allowed to see the bike so they only had the word of the police and there was no ground to cancel the claim.

It all went to court and the judge sided with the garage as far as the claim went and condemned the way the police handled it. It turned out the bike's were stolen by local idiots and found within a few miles of where they were stolen, they had also been used in competitons as the theives were stupid as they took all the Aprillia plastics off and bodged KTM one's to the bike to make them look like KTM's, which was stupid as all the engines casings had Aprillia cast into them.

was a bit of a surprise at the time the way they handled the whole thing, i can't remember if they ever caught the people that took the bikes but father would know if i asked him

Several years ago when we lived in Northumberland we had our house done over and the Busy who came to do the S-o-C reports just said 'If you go to Tynemouth Market on Sunday, you can buy it all back' - he thought this was a huge joke. Its fairly traumatic to have a break-in and this was just the sort of humour one really does appreciate at a time like that!!
