When I was younger I used to dismiss him as part of the 'loony left' until I got older and (perhaps) wiser and saw what he was trying to achieve. Our modern politics are rammed with identikit twats who haven't got a single conviction for what's right or wrong, they just want to feather their own nests.

Oh for another Tony Benn.

Couldn't have said it better, only the word 'twats' is perhaps too much of a compliment to pay to the self-serving cretins in power today. Tony Benn will always be remembered amongst bikers as the Labour Industry Minister in the early '70's who supported the Triumph Meridan Motorcycle Co-operative and indirectly without which a lot of you on here wouldn't have your Tigers today!

What do you mean it isn't that Mr. Ben :)

I'm not into politics but I do respect he was one who was good at his job.

A great man, some common sense in a politician , a rare breed , RIP you will be missed
 
Tony Benn was a great and inspiring orator and a politician who stayed true to his belief. He was also a great diarist. I first heard him talk at rallies/ demos in the late 70s/ early 80s, then at the Cambridge folk festival, and more recently at the university (when he had left Parliament to "spend more time in politics"). He was right about so many things (with capitalism and globalisation the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, for example). The world is poorer without him and my condolences are with his family. But they should feel very proud. RIP
