Whitesands bay bike parking charges

Just sent the following to St Davids council clerk
I would like to protest at the charge made for a motorcycle to park at Whitesands Bay Car Park of £3 per motorcycle and a review of this charge be made.
I have recently stayed with friends in Pembroke Dock on our annual St Davids Day Rally. An annual trip and a chance to get together and enjoy our first good ride of the year. 2 groups in total of approx 20 motorcycles headed to St Davids and Whitesands on St Davids Day.
On approaching the carpark the friendly attendant was almost apologetic at the charge for a motorcycle. The result being we refused to pay the unreasonable charge and parked nearby instead.
Most councils do not charge for bikes in car parks as forward thinking thought shows they are part of the answer to road congestion and take up little space in a carpark and can be parked in much smaller areas. I understand what the charges pay for and dare I admit I am happy to pay my fair share in taxes.
I think the general opinion amongst us was that £1 charge would have been reasonable for the space taken up and the fact that generally bikers will not be there for very long before moving on due to the logistics of all our safety gear and bike clothing.
I think there will be many more motorcyclists turning away this year with overall revenue lost (we always use the cafe as well!).
Sorry for the rant and thanks to the team who keep the wheels turning in an often thankless job.
Thankyou Tony Steel

I,ll pass it onto the Welsh BMF rep as he requested.

Good drills mate. I have to admit, £3 was taking the piss considering it was £4 for a car. Like you said, it's the Cafe that's going to miss out. On this occasion they didn't but all it would have took was a traffic warden to turn up and there would have been a lot of unhappy bikers... Thanks for your efforts Tony.

Nice one Tony.
The car park attendant even missed your impromptu dip & that was priceless !
Like Loggy says the Cafe folk would miss out.
I did have a word with the Cafe manager & she said the car park charge wasn't good for business either.

I have passed it on to Keith from the BMF who will follow up the issue as he is local to the area. I may be wrong but this is a classic case of no 2 wheelers on the parish council to put our points across when the decision was being made.

Nice one, Barftone! IMHO the parking charges in West Wales (bike & car) are getting a bit silly, and are undoubtedly putting people off..... which isn't good for tourism or local businesses

Any response from this letter yet?

Vote with your feet. The only thing they'll respond to is lost revenue or pressure from the business proprietors suffering these effects.

I have a gripe with the Powys Authority and their biker signage. It depicts a biker lifting a front wheel and speed lines coming off the rider, (tarring us all with the same brush).
Other more forward thinking councils, erect signs telling car drivers to look for bikers but not Powys. As far as I can make out from these signs, were the problem. This, despite the stats which prove that the vast majority of incidents involving motorcyclists are found not to be the riders fault.

If this is what Powys thinks of us, then take our money elsewhere.

Which is exactly what they want so they can sod off.
No response from St Davids. Gonna have to torch the Abbey...they'll lose their tourists then!
