Yamaha XT660Z Tenere?

Hi guys. I'm looking for opinions on the Yamaha XT660Z Tenere. I've got my Land Rover up for sale and once sold I'm thinking of buying one. I've read countless reviews and a few blokes I know own them. One is an 08 plate with 50,000+ miles on the clock and the other is a 13 plate with about 13,000 I think. Both have had no problems with them. I think you can still buy new without ABS?

It seems to be the last of the "Old School" RTW bikes that can get you to where you want to go without any problems. Seems simple enough to service and fix, has a very good solid motor and the subframe is reported to be VERY strong!

So what are your views?

Hello Tendays.

I'm 6 foot tall, 32" inside leg. I've got an Africa Twin, so the weight wont be a problem.

I'd love a Super 10, but the electronics put me off. I've always liked these 660's and they just seem to go on and on. It will be used mainly for commuting to work (50 mile round trip, mainly country roads with some A road as well) with weekend trips away. They seem good on fuel too. Reliability is my Number 1 priority and they certainly seem to be reliable.

Going to see if i can get a test ride this week on one.

I liked it when I rode one. Cruised at 75 ok. Only downside was the seat pushed me into the tank. But apart from that it is a bike I could own.....But as a replacement for an AT?? I'm 6.3 so height no problem.

Hello mate,

They are supposed to cruise the same as an AT, so not loosing out on "progress". Will have to get a ride on one to see. Probably keep the AT and do a rebuild... :D
