Bikesure Euro Cover v eBike

I've also asked on xrv in case anyone still is lurking there :)

I have been shopping around for a new Multibike policy for my two bikes and have essentially ended with Bikesure or eBike, as both are happy to insure an import bike (NX400)

Bikesure impressed me as they can be bothered to respond to enquiries and provide answers, eBike less so, they push the use of email and then take 2 days to respond...

However both are probably on a par for cover, although Bikesure are maybe 10% more expensive, but the ability to speak to someone without paying a premium line rate is good* I am also not that keen on the idea of an Insurer who can barely speak to me when I WANT to give them money...!!

BUT, Bikesure's European cover is to me, a strangely worded piece, so that I have asked for clarification. "If You give Us 14 days prior notification of Your intention to use Your Motorcycle abroad and pay any additional premium required"

With Carole Nash and before that another company, whose name now escapes me, simply telling the company I was going to be travelling abroad (paying a European premium is possibly a hint!) was near enough, Bikesure want me to contact them 14 days in advance each time. They might accept a phoned notification at short notice though... This seems a bit silly to me as I often will go at very short notice when I can slip away from the farm.

Question. Any Bikesure users care to comment on their experiences please, on notifying the Company at short notice, please?

* There is a work round number for eBike: 01454 634501

Hi Steve,I have e-bike multi cover. Re: European cover it reads =

The cover under this policy applies in respect of events occurring in all member countries of the European Community and Croatia,Iceland Norway and Switzerland.

Having said that,I'm taking a lighter bike to spain in a few weeks in my van. So less of a worry this time really. ;)

(The best breakdown cover I've used abroad has been "Cabby" ! Well recommended in emergency's :D :D )

When do you need to decide? I can try to clarify by asking. Where is that wording?

My understanding is that Bikesure addressed a lot concerns I had about European breakdown cover. The only reason I was not with them was they insure your bikes not you (I want an AA-style membership that covers me throughout Europe - in/on any vehicle, whether riding or as a passenger).

Whealie, I was given assurances on 3 occasions that I would receive written clarification on the Bikesure Euro cover queries I had. After 7 days I have now given up on them... I was not satisfied with their Policy requirement of needing 2 weeks Notice before travelling to Europe each time and no clarification on whether a premium would be payable...or not.

I was also told that they prefer clients to phone as emails can take "a while to deal with". I worry that if my giving them money is such hard work, what will a claim be like? ;)

Strange - I always email them changes to my policy. Had no idea over the prior notification of travel though.

Just had the following response Chris , which may be of interest to all Bikesure clients! Too late for me, as I have already gone with eBike, as I needed to get the cover sorted for the w/e. eBike give fully comp Euro Cover all year. 5k max/bike, which was OK by me.

"We can confirm we request our clients to provide 14 days notice for any proposed European trips in order that we can notify your Insurance Company Markerstudy of the forthcoming trip and send you confirmation from our records. v

If you contacted our office the day before a forthcoming trip we cannot guarantee you will receive our letter of confirmation which has important information in respect of travelling within Europe.

Please note Markerstudy give 30 days free European cover. Upon referral this can be extended at a cost of £21 per 30 days, or part thereof. We strongly recommend if you proceed with this cover, you contact us as soon as possible prior to any planned trips so we can advise your insurers accordingly.

Useful to know. It's a real pain these days. I had my credit cards frozen so many times I have to now phone them to tell them I am going abroad. The trouble is, even bike firms just don't get it. They ask - which countries are you visiting and on which days will you be there, and I say - I don't know the answer to either. I'm on a bike with mates, we might go anywhere. We might go there fast or we might go the twisty way. If I wanted to know what days I'd be where, and doing what, I'd book a guided coach tour not go by bike.

I'm the same in the UK. My wife has given up asking where I am going. I just say, oh so-an-so has organised a ride-out from Rykas. We could be going in Surrey, in Hampshire, Sussex, Kent, I have no idea. Sometimes I am not entirely sure where we went when I've got back either. :eekicon:
