Canada has a nationwide chain of coffee places called Tim Hortons. They are bit fast food-ish in style but the coffee is good and the wifi is free and fast. So, some photos.

Caribou (I think) at the side of the road

Bear proof lockers at the campsite

Rocky mountain views

Baby Elk

Lake Maligne (( bit wonky though)

Medicine Lake. An interesting one this as it has no surface outflow. It drains into a vast underground cave system that resurfaces about 20miles away. In the winter when everything running into the lake freezes the level drops dramatically, sometimes draining completely.

This deer thing wandered through our campsite this morning

Those bear proof lockers don't look big enough to sleep in! Whats that all about? :D

Great pictures and info :thumbsupanim:

Jealous of your travels . . . . but sniggering about the soaking your getting - could be in Scotland with that amount of water falling on you  :thumbsupanim:

Keep safe and keep taking photo's and typing about you travels - just to keep us lesser mortals jealous and helping us know your safe ;)

Yup, that looks like Canada...hope you're enjoying. I'm delayed, leaving Prince George July 5 and going north. I'll keep checking, maybe we'll meet again on the road...enjoy your travels.

Re: Canada & USA 2015

We are now well into British Colombia with the Rockies temporarily behind us. We stayed at a strange place called Kamloops. Strange because it was like a semi arid desert just a few miles from the high snow clad mountains and huge rivers full of glacier meltwater.

We headed south from jasper and down the Icefields parkway (mountains, snow, glaciers, etc) to Lake Louise (pretty tourist honeypot) where we had a night in a hostel as it was another cold and wet day. We both have bad colds and our huffing puffing and my snoring drive one of the other dorm residents out the room. Ha ha. We camped at Kamloops as it was nice and dry.

Back north towards Prince George, but our sore bums gave out before so we are in a motel in the middle of nowhere. $55 for a motel. $30ish to camp. No question.

Campsites here are good and bad. First a campsite is called a campground and a pitch is called a campsite. We confuse people a lot! A pitch/site is huge and normally separated by several yards of trees and undergrowth. They are sized for American RVs, and 5th wheel trailers so are usually pull-thru in design and mostly hard standing gravel. Each pitch comes with a big picnic table and a fire pit or stand of some sort. It's extra for a fire permit but wood is sometimes included or is dead cheap. Most campgrounds are heavily wooded so rather cool, shady and damp in the current weather. We have paid between $18 and $40 per night. Not all campgrounds have all facilities: many limited to just drop/compost toilets and cold taps. The RVs are obviously very well equipped. The campgrounds also tend to be well out of town and have no facilities for food or anything.

The wifi is too slow for photos. Will try later.

Hmmm, I can't decide if camping by the bear proof lockers is a good or a bad thing. It's nice and handy for putting stuff in but if a bear comes sniffing around for that open jar of jam it's going to be very near our tent.

Maybe that no one else is pitched near the lockers is an indication!

Still around Austin - thanks for the photo - it was named after a forbear (damn those bears get everywhere!) and I've even been there!
Glad you seem to be having a good time or at least bearable. Oooops - time to leave.

bears quickly learn that they can't get into these food lockers so don't waste their time trying. Hard to believe but that's the way it works.

Pictures from the last few days......

I still don't understand how Apple's photo app works with sharing and reverted to iPhoto and photo bucket, which is much easier.

6 hours on wifi and two pictures uploaded. We are in the back of beyond in a small community called Dease Lake on the Stewart Cassier Highway. It is now getting very very remote with around 200Km between places that consist of a small petrol station and store and a couple of houses. In between its trees lakes and stunning mountain views.

The Salmon Glacier. 30 miles down an gravel road. It was awesome. Loads more pics to come

Black bear ambling up the road towards us

We are going to Telegraph Creek tomorrow. Google it, well google telegraph creek road. Its going to be good this :thumbsupanim:
