Roadside finds

Now, this may just be me that finds and picks things up from the side of the road. Most of what I've found, it has to be said, have been whilst walking or cycling but I've come across a whole range of stuff -

Various nails and screws - not exactly exciting or unexpected, I suppose. Although the nine inch long 1/2" diameter high tensile bolt was a bit of a surprise. And the 6mm diameter 60mm long stainless socket head cap screw will find a use I'm sure.

Two mobile phones though one was seriously mangled by being driven over and the other was in a hedge - and had the hedge growing through it.

Crankshaft fan belt pulley and a seriously big one too.

Moped gear shift lever.

A 17mm six sided 1/2" dirve socket - a bit battered but still useable.

Various car wheel trims - though I don't bother with these.

A hi-viz vest - it'll need a wash but should be perfectly useable.

And a few more I've forgotten, probably.

So, is it just me that notices and collects stuff? Should I seek help?

Yes you should. In saying that I have found a 10mm long reach 3/8" socket and a pozi screwdriver that are remarkably handy

You might indeed need help, it depends on whether you are ready to fess up to what you were doing in the hedge?

I'm not sure that I know you well enough to divulge that. :D

Most memorable roadside find was the bolt holding my shift lever in place. It was kind of obviously missing having just set off from the lights in first gear...

That said I have once gone back for a rather nice Gedore spanner that was on the side of the road.

My Dad found a m'cycle boot with half a leg in it, in a hedge on the Guildford to Horsham road a while back. Apparently some poor bloke had come off his bike the week before, and in the process his leg got severed but it was so far from the actual accident none of the Rescue Services could find it.

yep, found loads of nails and screws - usually with the aid of my tyres. Also found screwdrivers, hammers and latest - a pair of snapon wirecutters!!

Driving license . . . . belonging to a local lad who's been out test riding a bike, hence he had the license on his person . . . and lost it :eekicon:

V-happy when I returned it to him :D

I claim the biggest find!! :mockery22: A brand new HGV wheel and tyre complete (must have been the spare) not a mark on it and still had the pimples on the tread. Phoned a mate who has a Tyre firm, he went to the spot and collected it, reckons it was worth £300/£400. Thats the advantage of being high up on a Bike, it had rolled down a banking and was hidden by long grass.

I just missed on a Stihl chainsaw a few months back. It bounced out a trailer on a bumpy corner. I was going the other way but by the time I stopped and turned round - all of 30 secs - someone else had stopped and was away with it. I was going to hand it in, honest.

Oh and my dad found a dead body once. Well his dog did. Lay by off the A5 near Cannock. Suicide it was but dad had to attend police, coroners etc. I think he was a murder suspect for a while.
